Kuwait records first case of omicron variant of coronavirus

Kuwait detected its first case of omicron variant of the coronavirus.

The variant was detected in an European traveller who arrived in Kuwait from an African country where the variant had been initially detected.

Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad, a health ministry spokesman, said that the traveller had already received both dosages of Covid-19 vaccine earlier and is now under institutional quarantine.

The Ministry has already taken necessary precautions as several nations have already announced discovery of this new variant.

At present, the pandemic situation in Kuwait is stable, but, nationals and residents are advised to take the booster shot to help the ministry curb the spread.
Based on studies, the current vaccines are effective against Omicron.

The health authorities have recorded 18 recoveries, one death and 33 new covid infections, which makes total number of cases as 413,588 in Kuwait.
