Kuwait advises nationals, expats against travel owing to new covid variant

01 December 2021

Kuwait has advised its nationals and expatriates against leaving the country at present as part of precautions against the new coronavirus variant ‘Omicron’.
According to Kuwaiti authorities, the new strain has not been detected in the country so far. Flights to nine African nations have been suspended.

As per media reports, the Omicron-related developments are still unclear in terms of its scale of spread, and the hotspots. There are no clarifications yet, said an unidentified source.

Hence, taking tougher precautions at national and international levels will depend on the spread of the variant.

However, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry has urged citizens not to travel abroad, unless it is absolutely necessary.

Kuwaitis who have to travel currently for compulsory reasons should abide by the health standards and measures enforced by various countries to tackle the coronavirus and its mutants, the ministry said.
