Kuwait mulls construction of new airport soon

12 January 2022

The authorities in Kuwait have given the go-ahead for construction of a new airport in the northern part of Kuwait, although the date of completion of the project and its value is yet to be revealed by the authorities.

At present, Kuwait has an international airport, located 9.6 miles south of Kuwait City, and serves as a hub for Jazeera and Kuwait Airways. The setting up of new airport falls in place with plans of fourth structural plan for Kuwait.

In the month of November 2021, authorities announced plans to invest about $8.2bn on 14 projects that were aimed at developing country’s main airport. Among the main projects are a new terminal at Kuwait International Airport with the capacity to accommodate 25million passengers annually, apart from addition of a third runway and a control tower.

The main contractor for the terminal project is Limak Construction, part of the lead Turkish conglomerate Limak Group. About 40 percent of the work is complete and on completion, the terminal will be one of the most advanced and eco-friendly airports in the world, and an iconic gateway to Kuwait.
