Kuwait MP proposes strict action on unnecessary job swaps in Kuwait

03 June 2022

In a proposal submitted by MP Abdullah Al-Tiraiji, restricting expat employees from swapping jobs, he called upon the interior ministry to coordinate with other government departments to study more about workers, including domestic helps, who sometimes escape from employers.

He further explained that the original sponsor invests lot of money, and time, to train the worker, who later transfers to another sponsor / employer on gaining experience, often because the latter offers better salary.

He also said, this is the case for all categories of expat employees, including technicians, lawyers and domestic workers.

He further suggested that an expat worker would be allowed to transfer from one sponsor to another, provided, he leaves the country. He will be granted a new visa after staying abroad for over five years.

He further called for amendment of relevant laws to ensure workers are protected as per Kuwait Constitution and international regulations, while also protecting rights of employers.

He also pointed out that several expat employees are victims of human traffickers who persuade them to another sponsor, upon working in Kuwait for a year.
