Kuwait extends entry visa validity for domestic workers to six months

13 May 2021

Kuwait has agreed to extend validity of entry visas for foreign domestic workers to six months.

The Interior Ministry has accepted a request to extend the duration of entry visa for domestic workers from the current three months to six months and to print their residency permits in their passports if their validity is for 18 months, rather than two years, said Khalid Al Dakhan, Head of Union for Domestic Labour in Kuwait.

Speaking to the media he said “such matters facilitate the recruitment process for the offices that suffered a lot during the last year and incurred heavy losses as a result of halting recruitment and flights with the countries exporting these workers. I thank the Interior Ministry for its wide cooperation with the union.”

Thousands of expats including domestic workers were stranded owing to travel restrictions imposed by Kuwait in recent months due to global coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier in the week, Kuwait said that passengers arriving from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka have been barred from entering the country until further notice.

Kuwaiti authorities, last month, banned all commercial flights between Kuwait and India until further notice, due to a dramatic surge in coronavirus cases there. The ban is also applicable to passengers directly coming from India or through a third country, provided, they have remained outside India for at least 14 days.

Last August too, Kuwait had announced temporary ban on flights from several “high-risk” countries, over concerns of Covid-19 spread.
