The Kuwaiti government has approved a draft law imposing tough penalties against coronavirus patients who are aware of their infection and hide it. This law is being imposed as part of country’s efforts to battle the virus.
According to the draft, anyone who are aware of having contracted the contagious disease, including Covid-19, and intentionally transmit them to others will face a five-year imprisonment and fine of up to 50,000 dinars.
The proposed law will be submitted to Kuwait’s Emir, who has the power to debate and approve it and bring it into effect.
In recent weeks Kuwait has implemented several precautionary measures to contain the spread of virus, including halting flights with outside world, extending two weeks holiday to all employees, shutting down of commercial complexes, malls, public markets and educational institutions, except food supply outlets.
