Health Minister urges people to stay indoors, as virus cases surge

07 May 2020

With spike in Covid-19 cases in Kuwait, the Kuwaiti Health Minister, Basil Al Sabah, has urged people to stay indoors, as the country recorded its highest daily rate of new coronavirus cases.

Kuwait’s infection count surged to 5804 cases after health authorities confirmed 526 new cases, the highest per day virus incidence in the country.

It is very important now not to move out of the house unless for absolute necessity,” the minister said.

He emphasized the need of abiding by social distancing, hand sterilization and/or frequent handwashing to keep the virus at bay.

Last month, Kuwait extended partial curfew imposed in March and increased it to take effect daily from 4 in the afternoon to 8 in the morning.

The authorities also extended suspension of work at government agencies until end of May as part of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.
