Jaber Bridge repair to cost KD 20m

The Public Works Authority revealed that it had addressed the Ministry of Finance to request the allocation of 20 million dinars for the management, operation and maintenance of the Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge – Doha and Subbiya links – as part of the budget for the current fiscal 2022-2023 as a total estimated value of the contract, which is expected to extend over 5 years, reports Al-Qabas daily.

It is the fourth longest bridge in the world, and is a major part of the plans to establish and develop the economic zone in the north of the country.

In this regard sources said the Ministry of Finance has asked the Works Authority to provide it with full details of the works included in the contract, and the basis applied for estimating the cost of those works before it proceeds to sign the contract.

The sources said that the ministry had previously received in 2019 an initial approval from the Central Agency for Public Tenders to contract directly with Hyundai to maintain and operate the bridge, but the Works Authority has not completed the contracting procedures since then, despite the importance of having a contract for the maintenance and operation of the project, whose implementation cost 738 million dinars.
