PAAAFR regulates beekeeping in Kuwait

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) Dr. Mohammed Al-Ahmad issued a decision regarding a regulation for beekeeping in Kuwait, reports Al-Anba daily.

The regulation stipulates that the authority shall supervise the profession of beekeeping and work on protecting it, develop plans, programs and guidance services, and cooperate with the relevant authorities in achieving this.

The beehives must be at least 50 meters away from the roads used by vehicles.The number of cells should be proportional to the area of the land, according to the conditions of the concerned authorities. The beekeeper is obliged to report any disease or pest that poses a threat to the bee colonies.

The authority will work to preserve the local bee breed and bee pastures, organize beehives and feeding operations, and issue licenses to practice the profession of beekeeping, which will be limited to citizens only, with the exception of employees working in specialized companies licensed by the authority to practice the activity of caring for bee colonies and using them in the production of bee products.

In coordination with the concerned authorities, the authority is responsible for granting a permit to import and export bees, feeding materials and beekeeping tools, monitoring the markets for bee products, and prohibiting the use of chemical pesticides or antibiotics in combating diseases or pests during the flowering season of plants.

The regulation highlighted the possibility of creating an electronic platform for the bee system on the Internet within the PAHW platform or the Sahel platform to complete all transactions and procedures for the regulation electronically.
