Kuwait’s Ministry of Health has authorised the emergency use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, state news agency KUNA reported.

Abdullah Al Bader, the Assistant Undersecretary for Drug and Food control said that in a press statement on Friday: “the approval only came after a detailed review and comprehensive evaluation of the vaccine was conducted”.

The vaccine has received approval from the European Medicines Agency, the United Kingdom Medicines and Health products regulatory agency, the Gulf Cooperation health council and Serum Institute of India, Al Bader added.

Kuwait had already placed an order for the Oxford vaccine but was awaiting approval before it was made available for use.

The ministry revealed that the first batch of the Oxford vaccine is expected to arrive in Kuwait within a few days. A few days ago, local media reported that the first batch will contain 200,000 doses.
