Google’s Kuwait Expansion: Three power stations to ensure reliable service.

Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity Transmission Networks Sector in the Ministry of Electricity and Water Eng Faisal Al-Sumait has revealed that the ministry, Kuwait Direct Investment Public Authority (KDIPA) and some other concerned entities are currently coordinating to establish three main power stations to serve three Google centers that the global company intends to open in the country soon, reports Al-Rai daily.
Speaking on the sidelines of the opening of the first summer electricity exhibition with the theme: ‘Oh, our sweet heritage,’ Al-Sumait disclosed: “The three stations will have a total capacity of 72 megawatts. Google requested for 60 megawatts – 20 megawatts for each center.”
He affirmed an agreement has been reached to establish Google centers in three locations – Sulaibiya Agricultural Area, South Saad Al- Abdullah City and South Al-Mutlaa City.
Regarding the tariff that will be calculated for the company, he said: “The tariff will be studied and evaluated by experts in the ministry to determine the appropriate value, followed by coordination with the concerned authorities.” On the status of electricity consumption this summer, Al-Sumait confirmed that the ministry already passed the critical stage – when power consumption records were broken. He pointed out there are only 10 days left in summer, stressing the ministry started the maintenance works at the beginning of September and will continue until the end of April next year.
