34 expat employees are sacked as state policy to reduce number of foreigners continues.

There are increasing calls to redress the population imbalance in the country, a media report said Friday. Foreigners account for nearly 3.4 million of Kuwait’s 4.8 million population.

The terminations were ordered by the ministry’s undersecretary Abdulaziz Shuaib. The sacked expatriates include a legal advisor at the minister’s office, an accountancy specialist, a senior legal specialist as well as social and psychological service workers at the ministry’s social care sector, Al Rai newspaper added.

“Reasons for ending the service of expats working in the ministry are in line with the state policy to replace foreigners with citizens in government jobs,” the paper quoted an official source as saying.

Some of the sacked expats have reached the retirement age of 60, the unidentified source added.
