Kuwait plans to gradually resume commercial flights at the Kuwait International Airport.
The gradual reopening plan will be considered by the Kuwait’s Higher Committee for Re-operating flights, and the plan has to abide by regulations from International Civil Aviation Organization and other relevant international organizations.
According to the Chief of General Administration of Kuwaiti Civil Aviation, Salman Al-Sabah, the committee will monitor the implementation of the plan and the manner in which international safety regulations are followed.
However, details about the plan and proposed dates are yet to be revealed.
Kuwait suspended all international flights to and from the country from 13th March to curb the spread of coronavirus, except the repatriation flights.
Later in the month of May, it was planned that the civil aviation authorities would resume commercial flights gradually with government approval, and it will be done in three phases. The first phase will see Kuwait International Airport resuming 20 to 30 percent of operations, while the second phase will see 60 percent of resumption, said Saad Al-Oteibi, the civil aviation spokesperson.
Airport authorities will however follow strict measures including use of thermal cameras, social distancing measures, creating new seating chart within planes, and re-organizing the setup within the airport, he pointed out.
