Ministry works to strictly curb bachelor accommodation in private residential areas

Necessary procedures would be initiated to stop the trend of accommodation of bachelors in private residential areas, and alternative solutions would be offered to residents of affected buildings, said Essa Al-Kandari, Minister of Communications and Municipality.

This is being done to ward off the corresponding social, demographic and security risks, the Minister pointed out.

The idea of allowing bachelors to live in private residences is a time bomb ticking in certain areas and the Municipality is determined to address this issue. In certain areas of Farwaniya Governorate, it is getting risky, coupled with additional burden on services, infrastructure and worsening traffic.

Speaking at the meet with governors and representatives of various government agencies to work out modality for activating decision of the Council of Ministers to prohibit bachelors from living in private residential areas, he urged the concerned authorities to suggest alternatives and expedite the construction of workers’ cities as the main key to solve the problem in Jahra, Ahmadi and Farwaniya.

The Capital Governor Thabet Al-Muhanna said that the authorities are ready to address the issue, and pointed out that Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh is the hotbed of legal procedures. He also emphasized the need to provide alternatives for bachelors, in co-ordination with private companies.

The Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Faisal Al Hamoud said that Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, Hassawi and Kheitan are the most affected areas and said serious action is required to end the suffering of Farwaniya residents.

A team has been formed, which would visit affected residential areas and take necessary steps immediately, including disconnecting electricity to buildings where violations are found.
