Ministry clarifies regarding labour contract for private sector teachers
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, has confirmed that it is not bound by any contract other than the new labour law and ministerial decisions pertaining to workers in the private sector.
This was revealed following a deal between the Private Education Department and the Ministry of Education, regarding prohibition of the transfer of residence permits of teachers in private schools, provided, an approval is obtained from the school administration, irrespective of the type of visa possessed by the teachers.
According to sources, this deal is a violation of ministerial decision number 179/2009, which permits expatriate workers to transfer their residence, without obtaining sponsor approval, following completion of three years of service with the current sponsor.
The sources were wondering about the reason of the ban of the transfer of residency for private school teachers without approval of school administration, particularly because it accepts applicants from other institutions in the private sector.
The sources are of the opinion that the private schools have entered into the deal with the Ministry out of fear of losing their teachers, as they offer low salaries, and at times require them to work longer hours.
The sources also revealed that few private schools also send away teachers from jobs during end of every academic year, only to recruit them again at the beginning of the school year, to avoid paying them during the summer break.
