Women employees working in designated sectors permitted to work in night shifts
The Minister of Social Affairs and Labour in Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah issued a decision permitting women to work in night shifts in designated places.
The Minister has permitted women to work in night shifts upto 2.00am during the Holy month of Ramadan, but only in the designated places.
The establishments wherein women are granted permission to work in night shifts include: pharmacies, medical labs, hotels, primary care sector, care homes for disabled and children, cinemas, theatres, radio and television stations, press houses, entertainment gardens, commercial buildings, airports and seaports, engineering offices, legal offices, aviation institutions and companies, and companies that are under contract with government authorities and require to serve round the clock.
During the month of Ramadan, women are permitted to work even until 2.00am in travel and tour offices, cooperative societies, aviation offices, commercial complexes, non-government organization, commercial complexes, educational institutions and restaurants, banks and beauty salons.
However, the minister has added that the women employees who work in night shift should be provided with transportation from and to their residences.
However, the ministry has banned women from working in night shifts in all industries that require heavy works and physical efforts.
The files of violating employers will remain closed until the violation is corrected, warned the Ministry.
