Kuwait delegation to recruit nurses from India

The Health Ministry in Kuwait has been persistently facing a dearth of nursing staff, which has been further aggravated by several nurses having left the country, after working at the medical facilities in the country.

Among the nurses that left the country, majority are Asians, who have left seeking better opportunities in neighbouring GCC nations, and even to Europe and United States.

The Ministry attributes this trend towards comparatively lower salaries being paid to the nurses. But, it is now noticed that raising wages has not prevented the nurses from leaving Kuwait. Therefore, the Ministry should find fool-proof solutions to all the problems faced by the nurses in Kuwait.

Keeping the situation in view, the Ministry has now referred a delegation to recruit nurses from India. It plans to recruit about 600 nurses from Kerala and Delhi. The Ministry will also hire 150 nurses from Philippines and Sri Lanka and 140 nurses from Egypt.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Allied Medical Services, Dr. Qais Al-Duwairi, said that the Ministry has been working hard to cover shortages and meet future requirements by increasing bed capacity by 2000 during the next two years. This is in addition to the ongoing expansion plans.

In the meanwhile, officials agreed that several non-Kuwaiti doctors have already submitted resignation, including twelve, who resigned from Farwaniya and Al-Sabah hospitals. Moreover, although doctors from India and Egypt are being employed now, it has been noted that fewer doctors have shown interest in pursuing their careers in Kuwait.
