Government criticized for failure to assist Kuwaitis in private sector
The government should be made responsible for its failure to offer assistance to Kuwaitis who have been laid off from work in private companies, due to global economic crisis, the Development and Reform Bloc in Kuwait pointed out yesterday.
The bloc pointed out the inability from the government’s end to address the issue which has borne a negative impact on families of Kuwaitis.
The bloc has appealed to the Parliament and government to consider the issue as topmost priority in their lists, as it is related to the citizens’ source of income, and serves as a test for private companies to determine their level of adherence to the National Manpower Law and their commitment towards providing job security to Kuwaitis.
The block argued that this issue has borne a negative impact on the social and economic sectors, but most importantly the family warning may cause breakdown of many families if the authorities fail to address the problem immediately.
Emphasizing the need to give priority to Kuwaitis, the bloc mentioned that those who were laid off from work through the GMRP (Government Manpower Restructuring Program) or Civil Service Commission (CSC), the bloc said that the role of GMRP in protecting the rights of Kuwaitis employed in private sector is crucial.
