1000 nationals quit private sector jobs in Kuwait
More than 1000 Kuwaitis have given up their private sector jobs during the last three months, owing to global financial meltdown in Kuwait.
The Secretary General of Manpower Restructuring Program, Hind Al-Sabeeh, reasoned that Kuwaitis are fleeing the private sector as they do not get the privileges equivalent to that in public sector.
The current global economic situation requires introduction of new legislation that covers private sector employment. However, the new labour law in Kuwait, although includes few positive aspects supporting the employment rights of Kuwaiti nationals, it also encourages citizens to work in private sector, Al-Sabeeh said.
Over the past three months, 1271 Kuwaitis have resigned private sector jobs. Al-Sabeeh said that the new program should introduce measures to support employees who have been made redundant in the private sector, and are yet to get a new job.
However, she pointed out that Kuwaiti nationals, who are eligible to gain jobs, but, prefer not to work, should not be compensated.
When implemented, the new labour law in Kuwait would considerably increase the rights and benefits of expatriate and Kuwaiti employees, Al-Sabeeh noted.
