Kuwait mulls re-registration of cancelled work permits of expatriates
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in Kuwait has approved new regulations for re-registering cancelled work permits of expatriates. This measure is aimed to solve problems of marginal workers and illegal residents.
According to Ministerial sources, several complaints have been received from employees whose work permits have been cancelled despite holding a valid residence.
The committee responsible for these regulations is headed by Undersecretary Mohammed Al-Kandari. As per the regulation, the worker’s sponsor should contact the labour department to sort out the problem either in person or through mail. Also, the application should be accompanied by the original work permit.
According to sources, the ministry is seriously taking into consideration expatriate issues, particularly after Bangladeshi expatriates staged demonstrations few months ago.
In the meanwhile, the Director of Welfare Department at Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, Ali Al-Hassan announced plans to enforce decision No.11 of the year 2007 to address the welfare of the aged in the society.
Speaking to the press, Al-Hassan revealed that discussions are on between the Social Welfare and Legal Affairs departments to review requirements of the employment of people with right caliber, capable of attending to the needs of the elderly and their families.
