380 companies in Kuwait held for violating Labour Law
Bader Al-Duwailah, the Acting Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, has revealed a list of 380 companies, who have violated the Labour Law. The list has been handed over to the interim Council of Ministers.
Among the 380 companies, the sources said 232 have been blocked under Section 3B of Labour Law, while the remaining 128 are imaginary companies, registered under different activities, such as cleaning and security services.
According to sources, there are still several major private establishments that have been under investigation for various violations.
The companies’ violations have prompted several Asian workers to stage protests last summer. The files of these companies have been closed, until the owners rectify their mistakes, if not, the files will be closed for ever, the source said.
The files of owners’ failing to correct their status will be forwarded to General Criminal Investigation Department (GCID). The Ministry has been grated complete rights by the Executive Authority, to take necessary action against violating companies.
The Ministry has been successful in demanding full salaries of workers, apart from other privileges such as housing, free transportation and health insurance. It has also implemented a mechanism for regular inspection of workers’ housing units to ensure better living condition for expatriate laborers, sources revealed.
The Cabinet has requested Al-Duwailah to transfer the files of violating companies to legal authorities, as these companies are believed to have recruited several foreign workers without offering them jobs on their arrival in Kuwait. Several of these companies have been found to be ‘imaginary’ companies and are involved in visa trading.
