Kuwait agrees on salary hike for citizens
Kuwait has announced that it plans to increase salaries of citizens, following the demand by Parliament, which questioned the efforts made by the Gulf State to fight soaring prices.
The Opec oil producer, is grappling with record inflation, which touched 10 percent in February and March, fuelled by mounting housing and food prices.
The government has approved the Parliament proposal to increase monthly salaries by KD50 for Kuwaiti employees serving the public and private sectors, who draw a monthly income less than KD1000.
The Finance Committee of Parliament had earlier demanded an increase just a couple of months after the previous cabinet raised salaries for Kuwaiti state employees by KD120 in February to soothe the impact of inflation.
The government also approved parliament’s decision to boost the fund meant to aid Kuwaitis in repaying personal debts upto KD500million as against the earlier KD300million.
