5 percent of Kuwaiti citizens unemployed
About 19,250 Kuwaitis, constituting above 5 percent of the national work force are unemployed, as per statistics from census bureau.
Among the unemployed workforce, 3108 (16 percent) are male, while 16140 (84 percent) are females. Half of those unemployed are below the age of 30, while 74.8 percent are under age of 40. The unemployment rate of males under 30, exceeds that of females by a larger margin (say 76 percent to be precise).
Most of the unemployed nationals hold under-high school credentials, while those possessing high school diplomas account for 14.4 percent of unemployed, and those with no formal education, account for 12.8 percent.
Amongst those employed, citizens who are actively seeking jobs but are unable to find them, belonging to the category of ‘Compulsory Unemployment’, is nearly 6160 job seekers.
Kuwait has been trying to eliminate unemployment by providing the young and able with opportunities to begin small businesses on their own, and pour greater resources into vocational training, as well as curb the numbers of foreign workers entering the country.
