Kuwait seeks mechanism to monitor influx of foreign workers
The residential structure in Kuwait is facing a slow-down due to huge problems in the absence of an effective mechanism that monitors the movement of foreign workers into the country, said Saad Al-Khanfour from the Fourth Constituency.
Quoting figures of the latest statistical report on the influx of foreign workers into the country, issued by the Ministry of Interior, Al Khanfour said that there are about 532,000 Indians and 251,000 Bangladeshis residing in Kuwait, out of three million total population in the country.
Al-Khanfour has requested the Cabinet to take necessary measures to monitor influx of foreign laborers, which at present, constitute 64 percent of the country’s population. He emphasized the fact that only 12 percent of these expatriates hold higher education certificates, while the rest are marginal labourers.
The phenomenon is a 'time-bomb' which will explode any time. Al-Khanfour warned that these laborers have brought unusual diseases to Kuwait, and warned about the dangers of citizens living with foreign bachelors in the same area who, which may be a threat to national security.
He urged the Ministry of Interior to activate its role in scrutinizing the qualifications of expatriate workers entering the country and curb the illegal practices of these workers.
