Kuwaiti Private Sector and Public Sector employees receives pay-hike
The Kuwaiti employees in Private and Public sectors will get a fixed salary increase of KD120, beginning next month. Expatriates working in the public sectors will get a pay-hike of KD50.
The increase in salaries was announced by the Minister of Finance, Mustafa Al Shamali, after a cabinet meeting which finalized the issue. The Minister mentioned that Kuwaiti retirees and citizens receiving pensions, and social aids will also be benefitted by the hike. The hike, however, will not be added to the basic salary, so as to avoid burdening the state pension agency, Shamali said.
The hike is also being stated as a cost of living allowance and is being mentioned as a measure to face the abnormal increase in prices of consumer goods.
Several MPs in the meanwhile, has described this increment as ‘disappointing’. MP Saadoun Al Hammad said that he expected the increment to be no less than 200 dinars, as this hike would not do anything for a citizen who has to constantly face increase in living cost.
Kuwaitis have been long demanding the pay-hike, following an increase in cost of living, with the inflation rate hitting a 15-year high.
