Kuwaiti Cabinet nods for initial approval of pay-hike
The Kuwaiti Cabinet has confirmed initial approval for increase in salaries of Kuwaiti employees, the officials announced.
The announcement came, following a cabinet meeting held on Monday, when the Deputy Prime Minister, Faisal Al Hajji, said the increment would be made public one day prior to the celebration of Kuwait National and Liberation Days.
In the meanwhile, a Kuwaiti news paper had quoted that the total value of the hike would be KD1.2bn, and the increment range would be between KD100 and KD200, distributed amongst three categories. Employees with a salary of KD750 or less will get a raise of KD200, while those with a salary range of KD750 to KD1000 will get a hike of KD150, and those with more than KD1000 will get an increment of KD100.
The paper also stated that the increment would be applicable to employees of both private and public sectors in Kuwait.
In the meanwhile the MPs have demanded that the Cabinet should follow the path of other GCC states who have hiked the salaries of national employees.
Increased cost of living, coupled with mounting inflation, the state’s fiscal budget for the year 2006-07 has cross $20billion, due to which Kuwaitis had demanded a hike in salaries towards during end of 2007.
