New Labour Law likely to be introduced in Kuwait
Dr Saleh Al-Shaikh, the Assistand Undersecretary, Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, has assured that a new Labour Law in Kuwait, would enable better working conditions, and would put an end to all obstacles that currently exist in the labour market due to the previous law. The new law will be implemented this year.
Speaking about the meetings held with the concerned committee at the National Assembly, under the presence of the Labor Union, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, Dr. Saleh said, the meetings, which concluded a few days ago, included discussions on more than 145 articles in the proposed law.
He added that the committee would soon forward this law to the National Assembly for approval, and the law is likely to be approved during the current year. The new law, is expected to be in contrast to the previous law, but, will be in line with international agreements, that has Kuwait as a signatory.
The new labour law is expected to bring about more employee benefits such as maternity leaves, Hajj vacations, annual leaves and scholarships. There is also a proposal suggested for possibility of transfer of employment residencies without any time restrictions, in return for the extra fees to be paid. These suggestions are, however, awaiting approval.
