Government Employees can expect pay-hike next month
The Minister of Finance, Mustafa Al-Shamali, announced that the government is working on increasing the salaries of all government employees towards end of February 2008.
He said that the World Bank has prepared a study for the issue of salary raise, which carries information on average income of government employees in various departments, the rate of inflation, financial amounts required to cover the increases, and more such vital information. The study will soon be sent to the CSC for perusal.
Once, the CSC reviews the study, it will be sent to the Cabinet for approval. He expects that the increase in salary will be on or before the Kuwait’s celebration of independence and liberation day, which falls on February end. The details of increase are yet to be revealed.
In yet another development, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Committee has announced that it has achieved several feats in a short span of time. One such achievement was the compilation of a study pertaining to minimum wages in Kuwait, issue of commercial licenses as per local labor market needs. The committee aims to further develop the private labor sector.
