Ministry suggests new proposal on employment transfers
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour has placed before the Cabinet, a proposal that seeking permission for transfer of expatriate workers to another sponsor, irrespective of the number of years in service with current sponsor, provided, the specified fees is being paid.
The move is aimed at regulating the expatriate labour market, and aims at completely eradicating the rampant trading of visas in the country. There has been a growing population of expatriates, who failed to obtain jobs after purchasing visas from illegal traders, and this move is aimed to improve the conditions of expatriate workers in the country.
According the sources, the suggestion would significantly contribute in putting an end to the illegal activities in the labour market. Based on the Cabinet’s instructions, the Ministry would enforce strict measures in controlling the issuance of work permits, and to prevent entry of unskilled expats to Kuwait, so as to provide more opportunities to Citizens.
The proposal is now awaiting the Cabinet’s approval.
