New Labour Law to be ready by December
The Parliamentary health, social and work committee conducted their first meeting on Monday, during which, the panel discussed at length about the draft labour law, being proposed for the private sector.
Following the meeting, MP, Saleh Ashour, while speaking in a press release, said that the team discussed the law’s articles, and the 145-article, relevant to working in the private sector.
The discussions included the participation of members representing the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Undersecretary of Social Affairs and Labour Ministry, the Labour Union, the Committee of private sector employees, and the Banks’ syndicate. Ashour said that most articles of the law, has been discussed, with only a few remaining, after which, a detailed report regarding the law would be drafted for perusal by the Parliament.
At present, the International Labour Organizations have expressed numerous observations regarding the proposed law by the cabinet, and the cabinet has submitted amendments to its own proposed law. The law would, however, be finalized in December, as it is very significant and preserves the rights of employees and employers alike. This is being done, as the current employment law, which was issued in 1964, is unsuitable and outdated, for the coming days.
