Kuwait’s communication media is fully vibrant, with newspapers, radios and satellite channels, all having gradually developed so as to make Kuwait the media capital of the Gulf. Kuwait media is independent and enjoys good support of the State. The other best medium of communication in Kuwait is the telephone and mobile services and the internet.

Newspapers

The print media, television and radio, reaches out to the entire nation, binding all its nationals together. The press is considered as a democratic form of freedom of expression and is the country’s pride. The newspapers and magazines are published in several languages including English, Arabic and French. There are seven daily newspapers in Kuwait, which is printed in Arabic and English. 'The Kuwait Times' also publishes 16 pages newspaper for expatriate community, which constitute eight in Malayalam and eight in Urdu.

Satellite and Radio

Radio has been a part of communications in Kuwait since 1951. It still has its share of followers, despite the advent of satellite channels in Kuwait.

TV

Television is another important form of Kuwait communication, with the first major steps towards television transmission being done in November 1961. It was during this time that the late Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah made Kuwait TV to be transferred to the State. Thereafter, Kuwait TV became part of the Ministry of News and Guidance, and is now known as Ministry of Information. Thereafter, Al-Muha’s transmission station was established, and the transmission reached the entire country.

Established on 6th of October, 1976, KUNA (Kuwait News Agency) is one of the world’s biggest news agencies. The agency telecasts news, catering to individuals and information establishments, keeping the audience well-informed about happenings in national and international arenas.   

Among the popular satellite channels in Kuwait are Al-Rai TV, Global Direct Television Kuwait, Al-Watan Satellite TV, Al-Afasy Channel, Al-Resalah Television Station, and Smile Television.
