Recruitment of domestic workers from the Philippines will resume soon, according to sources from the labour recruitment offices.

Head of Kuwait’s Union for Domestic Labour Khalid Al Dakhnan said, “The return process will take place after the Kuwaiti and Philippine sides agree on all provisions related to the contracts and rights of labour while heeding all health stipulations amid the coronavirus pandemic.”

The Philippines enforced a ban on sending new domestic workers to Kuwait back in January 2020, after a Filipino domestic worker was sexually abused and killed by her employer.

Khalid Al Dakhnan said that the recruitment offices in Kuwait will be able to receive recruitment applications from Kuwaiti citizens once an announcement is made about the start of recruitment in the “coming days”.

Bassam Al Shammari, a representative of the labour recruitment offices stated that the Philippine Union discussed the matter with the recruitment offices in Kuwait and have finalized the new regulations regarding contracts.

He pointed out that any employer that has a history of employment issues or non-commitment to pay salaries will be barred from recruitment.
