Health Ministry signs KD265mn hospital expansion deal

The Health Ministry in Kuwait signed a KD265mn contract for designing, equipping and maintenance of the new Farwaniya Hospital expansion project. This was revealed by the Health Minister, Ali Al-Obaidi, when signing the deal with Sayyed Hameed Behbehani and Sons.

He said that the hospital includes all specialties, allied medicines and school health services, apart from dentistry building with 100 specialized clinics, and 30 clinics for school health.

The project also includes physiotherapy and outpatient buildings, apart from 27 operation theatres and 233 ICU beds. The project would be complete in another four years, Obaidi said. At present, there are nearly 15 public hospitals in Kuwait with a 5,350 bed capacity. The Ministry of Health plans to build eight new hospitals to raise the total bed capacity to about 11,000 by 2016.

Farwaniya Hospital expansion form part of ambitious projects which include a new hospital expansion in Jahra, a revamp of Al Razi and Ibn Sina hospitals and construction of the new Jaber Al Ahmed hospital.

The Jaber Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Hospital in South Surra would include 1500 bed hospital, staff, and doctor’s residency building, services and power building, engineering workshop, laundry building, medical gas building, ground water tank, multi-storey garage and three-storey underground car park building with a capacity of 7000 cars.

The Jahra Hospital expansion includes construction of 1171 bed hospital with seven distinct buildings including the main building, a dental centre, an administration building, a service centre, two car parks one for public and another for hospital staff.
