Kuwait will not issue visit visas to six barred nationalities

A decision by Interior ministry in Kuwait permits embassies and consulates in Kuwait to issue all types of visit visas, but, six nationalities have been barred from entry into Kuwait.

The embassies and consulates were given complete authority to issue visas, based on procedures stipulated by the law.

Minister, Shaikh Muhammed Al Khalid had instructed the Citizenship and Travel Documents and Immigration Departments to work in co-ordination with the Interior Ministry and hotels sector, which could together engage in issuing all kinds of visas including family, tourist or commercial visas to Kuwait.

However, according to security sources, the new rules are not applicable to nationals from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan, as they have been barred from entering Kuwait.

The ban, which is valid since 2011, was initiated due to the difficult security conditions in the six countries, and also due to considerably increasing tendency of Kuwaitis from these countries to apply for visas to bring in their Kuwait relatives, who faced challenges in their home countries.

The decision to allow embassies to issue visas will now be followed by several meetings to agree on specific measures for the process and to ensure that applicants who have violated laws are not granted visas.

Kuwait is home to 2.2million expatriates, constituting two-thirds of total population. The Interior Ministry has always issued visit visas to their relatives who meet the requirements.
