Kuwait to shortly open new KD900mn airport terminal tender

Kuwait has announced plans to tender a contract for the work on building a new airport terminal worth KD900million, the Undersecretary at the Public Works Ministry, Abdul Aziz Al-Kulaib, revealed.

The project forms a part of $110bn development plan of the country, aimed at modernizing and diversifying Kuwait’s oil-reliant economy. Among the other projects planned are building of a subway and rail network, hospitals, roads, new power stations, and a port on Boubyan Island.

The Public Works Ministry plans to invest KD4billion on road projects over the next five years, said Saud Al-Naki, the Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Administration. This is inclusive of introducing two interchanges on a main highway leading to Kuwait International Airport to serve the new terminal.

The Ministry already awarded a 738mn dinar Causeway project to a group led by Hyundai Engineering & Construction Company. The Subiya Causeway will stretch 37.5 kilometres across water, linking Kuwait City with Subiya in the north and Boubyan Island, wherein projects are being planned as part of development plan.

Back in the month of May this year, it was announced that Kuwait plans to invest $6billion to double the passenger numbers to 13million at the airport by the end of the year 2016.
