Government to issue emergency decree on KAC privatization

The government in Kuwait is likely to issue an emergency decree regarding privatization of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) within the next few days.

According to sources, the decree will include stipulations about the need to protect rights of KAC employees, while pilots and engineers who have been in service for more than 20 years, will be given two options to either stay in the job or to retire.

In case these pilots and engineers choose to retire, their indemnity will be paid, with maximum amount being equal to 3years salary. The decree will also make it obligatory for the new investors to pay within five years the same salaries granted to employees prior to privatisation.
