Increased demand for flight tickets during Eid holidays

The representatives at travel agencies in Kuwait reported that there has been a huge demand for tickets for the Eid holidays, following the lean period of Ramadan, as Kuwaitis prefer spending the fasting season at home with family.

The Eid holidays recorded increase in reservations by 40 to 200 percent, with Dubai and Istanbul being particularly popular destinations, despite the high prices. The demand was so strong that some families even decided to postpone or cancel their holidays, as they failed to secure bookings.

The political instability in Lebanon has led to cancellation of bookings for Beirut, particularly after the warning issued by Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry against nationals travelling to the Arab country.

One of the travel agents, who spoke to the media, said that the relatively short holidays and political instability largely limited choices to destinations such as Dubai, Istanbul and East Asia. The increased demand was met by airliners, listing additional flights.

Currently, there are 16 flights to Dubai per day for the Eid season, with KAC, Emirates Airline, Jazeera Airways and FlyDubai offering direct route.

The prices for Kuwaitis’ top destination Dubai are high in comparison to that seen before Ramadan, despite the offers of four-star and five-star hotels. The price increase is at the rate of 45 to 85 percent, he said.

Bookings for Europe dropped due to short holiday and fall season, while the London bookings continue to remain unaffected, with London continuing to be one of the favourite destinations of Kuwaitis. The surplus demand for Dubai, has led to increased flights and difficulty in securing bookings.
