80 percent of unemployed nationals in Kuwait are women

According to latest government report, nearly 19,000 Kuwaitis are unemployed, with 80 percent of them being women.



The latest statistics released by the Central Statistical Office in Kuwait, indicates that rate of unemployment has dropped by 7% in 2012, compared to that in 2011, with 19061 people being unemployed, in comparison to 20,573 last year. The report also showed a 17.1% decline in the average number of unemployed male nationals.



Meanwhile, the total percentage of unemployed females, constitute 79.4% of the total unemployed, in comparison to just 20.6% of their male counterparts. However, the unemployment rate dropped by 4.4% this year, in comparison to that of 2011.



Among those unemployed, 51.4% of nationals are in the age group 20 to 29, while 69.3% are in the age group 20 to 39. The report also detailed that 59.8% of unemployed nationals have only elementary or middle school educations, with majority lacking academic qualifications.
