Bogus employment of nationals in private sector criticized

Kuwait incurred losses amounting to KD60mn a year, due to bogus employment of nationals in private sector, say latest media reports.

According to sources, nearly 20,000 of the 70,000 registered Kuwaiti workers in private companies are bogus, and each of them receives a monthly KD250. The country invests about KD60mn a year for these employees. The problem is largely due to lapses in the employment system, and weak monitoring methods and failure to conduct a brief study of the local labour market.

According to sources, some people have taken advantage of the weak monitoring system at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour, pointing out that only about 30 officials’ follow-up procedures for recruitment of nationals in the private sector.

The main objective is to generate nearly 20,000 job opportunities in private companies each year, as the public institutions are unable to manage the increased population of Kuwaiti workers.
