Nearly 88,000 Kuwaitis, expats issued travel bans

Nearly 88,000 people, both Kuwaitis and expatriates included, have been slapped travel bans by court verdicts, it has been reported.

Last month alone, there were 4000 Kuwaitis and expatriate names added to list of names of people banned from travel. Among those banned from travel are 45,000 nationals and 43,000 expatriates belonging to nine nationalities, including nationals from India, Egypt, Bangladesh, Lebanese, Syria, Philippines, Pakistan, Nepal and Ethiopia.

One of the most common reasons for travel ban is non-commitment to pay debt, despite court verdicts. The court has issued travel ban for failure to pay debt even as little as KD20. The sources mentioned that residents or nationals, who are banned from travel for failure to pay debts, can settle their dues at any border point, prior to departure.
