Residence permit of nearly 300,000 residents needs authentication

The authenticity of residence permit of nearly 300,000 residents in Kuwait will have to be verified by concerned authorities, reports Al-Watan, an Arabic daily.

According to the daily, the residency of at least 250,000 domestic workers, are doubtful, as they do not seem to be living with their sponsors. The latest census indicates that the sponsors did not register the details of these domestic servants with census authorities, which imply that majority of them are jobless.

Nearly 120,000 expatriate details have not been recorded during the census, despite them holding valid residence permit. This indicates that although they possess a valid residency, they only visit Kuwait twice a year to maintain their residence status intact. Further, the 50 percent of addresses recorded in the Civil IDs of residents are fake, the daily reported.

Therefore, work permits will be restricted to vital projects so as to reduce the import of marginal labourers. Work permits will be issued only on verifying suitability of workforce.

Further, a ministerial decree will be issued to amend the regulations pertaining to recruitment of foreign workforce. This is being done to reduce importing labourers who add no economic value.
