Transfer of commercial and visit visas to work permits, now permissible

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour has permitted the transfer of commercial and visit visas to work permits, for those recruited by companies dealing with government projects and public establishments.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, Jamal Al-Dousari mentioned that the decision covers all nationalities except nationals of countries banned from entering Kuwait such as Iran, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen and Afghanistan as per the directives from Interior Ministry.

Such a decision has been taken to fill vacancies, particularly those that require rare fields of specialization. Some companies have recruited expatriates with rare fields of specialization, but, they hold commercial visas.

Al-Dousari said that labour departments in all six governorates have begun accepting applications for transfer of commercial and visit visas to work permits, provided, the visas still remain valid. He affirmed that the beneficiaries of the decision include those with specializations in various disciplines, ranging from intermediate to higher academic levels.
