Major ports in Kuwait to be privatized

Kuwait has announced plans about privatization of major seaports in the State. This move forms a part of the future plans by Ministry of Commerce, said the Minister Salem Al-Othania.

According to Al-Othania, a study will be held to build a cargo terminal at Shuaiba Port. This denies speculations that the Ministry has delayed implementing projects that form part of state’s development plan.

The Minister mentioned that among the main projects of the Ministry of Communication (MOC) are the metro project, telecommunications authority, and postal authority. This can be realized once the technical procedures are finalized. However, the mega projects need approval from the Parliament prior to floating a tender for bidding, after which, contracts are signed before beginning the construction.

Meanwhile, Al-Othania also pointed out the privatization of Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC), as part of the privatization law of the company. When fully privatized, the KAC will be completely overhauled.
