Domestic workers cannot travel without sponsors
Domestic workers or those with Article 20 visas are not allowed to travel outside Kuwait without a sponsor, except if they are returning to their home countries.
This was clarified by the Assistant Undersecretary for Border Security Affairs at the Ministry of Interior, Maj. Gen. Anwar Al Yasin, who explained that the worker can travel only with a sponsor or member of sponsor’s family or with a written permission from the sponsor.
This is in line with the decision number 97, issued by Undersecretary Lt. Gen. Ghazi Abdulrah-man Al-Omar, on 5th January 2012. If the sponsor permits worker to travel alone by air, or with other people who are not his family members, he should keep the concerned officials at Kuwait International Airport informed about it.
In case the worker is travelling by land, the sponsor will have to notify the concerned officers at the borders. The rule is the same, if travelling by sea.
The sponsor should also contact the Operations Section at the Land Borders Security Department in Nahda to obtain a signed letter regarding travel.
