Interior Ministry plans granting citizenship to eligible illegal residents
The Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Ahmad Hmoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Thursday, speaking about the issue of illegal residents, mentioned that a law is being prepared for illegal residents, intending to grant Kuwaiti citizenship to those eligible.
Sheikh Ahmad further said that the processing of the law aims to finalize this issue, and therefore, all those who adjust their status, will be granted permanent or limited residency, based on their legal status.
He further explained that there are four segments that deserve citizenship, which includes first degree relatives of Kuwaiti nationals, people who have the census of 1965, sons of divorced Kuwaiti women, and segment of military, including army and the police, pointing out that the process of naturalization were being conducted in accordance with procedures.
He further pointed out that all segments of illegal residents are currently enjoying great social status in terms of education, treatment and employment, a matter which is hard to find in the world, even in democratic countries.
