New regulation regarding transfer of work permits approved by Ministry
Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour have approved the latest regulation, governing transfer of work permits of workers completing three years with their sponsors.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Labour, Jamal Al-Dosari, said the policy has been approved to prevent employees who fail to notify their sponsors atleast three months in advance about leaving their jobs, from transferring their residence permits, even if they have completed three years with their current sponsor.
The labour departments have been directed to reject all fixed-time contract applications involving three-month notices sent by employees to their employers, provided, the contract duration has expired.
In cases of contracts without fixed time period, the workers can file complaints, if they have sent the notice three months ahead to their employers. However, it is the duty of labour department to notify the employers promptly in such cases.
An official source revealed that the new regulation has been introduced following several complaints from sponsors about employees having exploited their right to transfer to new sponsors, by leaving jobs without giving a notice period, while several others even leave without returning items in their custody.
