Raising of Salary Cap for dependent visas unlikely
There has been no official notification to consider the possibility of raising salary cap for issuance of family or dependent visa, said an official at the General Immigration Department.
The ceiling for family or dependent visa is KD250. According to sources the department has not yet been instructed by the Interior Ministry to look into economic and security aspects of the proposal to raise the salary ceiling.
As for the decision to ban certain nationalities from entering Kuwait, the sources confirmed that the decision is effective, although not absolute. The directive aims to impose stringent procedures, owing to security reasons.
Earlier the Interior Ministry had planned to raise the salary cap for expat workers to KD500 for obtaining the dependent visas, which the Kuwait Trade Union Federation (KTUF) rejected outright.
The Union argued that it is not the right way to curb the growing number of unskilled expat workforce in the country. It indicated that appropriate solutions would be to cancel the sponsorship system and establish a public manpower authority.
