Kuwait Ministry temporarily suspends processing of commercial visit visas

The Labour Ministry in Kuwait is likely to temporarily suspend the processing of commercial visit visas to companies, owing to growing number of expatriate workers in Kuwait.

Speaking to a gathering by Social Care Home Sector at Sulaibikhat, the Minister Dr. Mohammed Al-Afasi, mentioned that the decision will be implemented from 1st September 2011.

He emphasized the need to balance the population structure in the country, particularly as the minister noticed considerable growth in visit visas being converted to work permits.

He also said that some people have taken advantage of the leniency of the authorities. Therefore, they need to take stringent measures to stop the growing number of marginal workers.

Al-Afasi said that temporary suspension will offer a chance for Ministry to review the policy and lay down the new regulation, or permit private sector to recruit competent and skilled labourers to expedite the implementation of their projects.
