Increase in capping of family visas likely

The Interior Ministry is considering proposals to increase capping on family visas from KD250 at present of KD500. This proposal is likely to be implemented within months, which will directly affect the expatriate community in Kuwait.

The proposal coincides with recent reports that expatriates are permitted to bring in their parents and are allowed to live here on dependent visas.

However, it is said that the authorities have arrived at such a decision, taking into account the ability of expatriates to support their families, and to get rid of marginal workers and above all, to add social stability to Kuwait.

Last week, the Interior Ministry had recommended the Kuwait Cabinet to charge KD100 for each visit visa. As per the latest study by the Ministry, few of these visitors had put in major burden on various departments of Kuwait, particularly the health ministry.
