Kuwait lifts freeze placed on residence of certain nationalities

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior in Kuwait, Shaikh Ahmed Al-Hamoud has now instructed the concerned departments to complete the formalities of residence transactions of expatriates belonging to certain nationalities, which was earlier frozen, in accordance with an order issued by the Ministry.

The Minister issued the order, following detailed accounts of hardships faced by these nationalities, including Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Syrians, Iranians, Iraqis and Afghans.

The Ministry had suspended the transactions of these nationalities, although they were willing to pay fines and legalize their stay in Kuwait.

The Minister has now issued clear instructions to concerned departments to complete all transactions of these nationalities without exception, provided, they have entered Kuwait prior to issuing of the decision. However, illegal residents who fail to leave the country prior to end of amnesty period on 30th June 2011 will have to face the punishment.

Such violators are free to leave the country without any penalty, or legalize their stay here. But, those who fail to make use of this opportunity will be punished, deported and blacklisted.
